This month, we’re highlighting one of Brownsburg’s newest and most unique outdoor spaces, Virgil Park. As the park approaches its two-year anniversary this May, it’s a perfect time to celebrate a space that blends nature, recreation, and community legacy.
A Park Integrated with Nature
Virgil Park, located at 9145 E County Road 300 N., spans more than six acres and was thoughtfully designed to preserve the area’s natural wetlands and prairie landscape. Visitors can explore a half-mile trail network featuring a scenic boardwalk, native plantings, and spaces that invite you to slow down and connect with nature.

From its nature-inspired small playground and water feature to fitness equipment and a picnic shelter, the park offers something for all ages while still maintaining a peaceful, natural feel.

A Gateway to the B&O Trail
Virgil Park serves as a trailhead to the popular B&O Trail, making it an ideal starting point for a walk, run, or bike ride. From Virgil Park, trail users can travel east all the way to downtown Indianapolis (approximately 6 miles), or west to N. CR 250 E. (approximately 6.5 miles).

Cyclists will also appreciate the bike repair station located near the park’s parking lot. Equipped for quick fixes and adjustments, it’s a convenient amenity that helps keep riders moving along the trail.
Along this portion of the B&O Trail, trail users will find colorful artwork painted by IU Health West Hospital showing trail users from a birds eye view.

Honoring a Lasting Legacy
The park is named in honor of Diana and Hall Virgil, whose dedication helped bring the B&O Trail to life. For more than 20 years, they worked to transform a former rail line into a thriving recreational trail that now connects communities across Hendricks County.
