Virgil Park Honored with Two Prestigious Awards for Sustainability and Engineering

The Town of Brownsburg and V3 Companies are proud to announce that Virgil Park has been recognized with two prestigious awards, celebrating its innovative design, engineering excellence, and commitment to sustainability. The park has received the 2025 ACEC IN Engineering Excellence State Finalist Award and the 2024 INASLA Biodiversity and Climate Action Green Ribbon Award.

The annual ACEC IN Engineering Excellence Award honors outstanding engineering achievements that demonstrate exceptional innovation and impact. V3 Companies earned this recognition for their groundbreaking work in transforming Virgil Park into a nature-inspired haven that seamlessly integrates environmental stewardship with community connectivity.

Located along central Indiana’s renowned B&O Trail, Virgil Park was designed as a trailhead park to provide much-needed public greenspace and enhance connections within the Brownsburg community. The park design highlights the site’s natural resource functions, allowing users to engage with wetlands and prairie. Additional park features include a permeable parking lot, an internal circulation system leading visitors through prairie and native landscape, educational signage for the different types of landscape, a natural play space, and a fitness station.

V3’s civil engineers took an innovative approach to stormwater management, converting the flat, isolated 6.7-acre site into a functional wetland that incorporates flood control measures discreetly throughout the park. By utilizing native plantings and permeable pavers, Virgil Park not only mitigates stormwater issues but also fosters a thriving ecosystem for native wildlife and plant species.

In addition to engineering excellence, Virgil Park’s commitment to sustainability and biodiversity was recognized with the 2024 INASLA Biodiversity and Climate Action Green Ribbon Award. This award highlights projects that prioritize ecological balance and climate resilience, reinforcing Virgil Park’s role as a model for sustainable park development.

The Town of Brownsburg invite residents and visitors to explore Virgil Park and experience firsthand the benefits of a nature-inspired park that harmonizes recreation with conservation.
