On Thursday, July 23, the Town Council declared August 2-8 National Farmers Market Week in recognition of the important role that the Brownsburg Farmers Market plays in the local community.
Meet Madison Laatz, the Market Coordinator of the Brownsburg Farmers Market. This is Madison’s first year in this role, which she entered after completing an internship with Brownsburg Parks last summer.
“It’s a much larger position to take on,” Madison notes, “but I felt such a passion and connection to the farmers market last summer that I wanted to take on this role and really make it my own.”
As Market Coordinator, Madison is in charge of all planning and communication leading up to the Brownsburg Farmers Market, as well as managing day-of set-up and operations. Madison explains, “I navigate all vendor communications, making day-of maps, reviewing applications and licenses, and overseeing payments.”
Outside of these practical tasks, Madison has focused on expanding the Market’s marketing and social media presence. “We film a weekly promotional video each week that gets posted to the Parks social media accounts. We always want to follow the weekly theme and get creative,” Madison says.
The Brownsburg Market has grown substantially throughout the years, increasing in the amount of vendors and attendees. This year, the Market peaked at 88 vendors, reaching nearly 2,000 visitors in a single evening.
Another exciting development to the Market this year is the inclusion of weekly live music, hosting local artists like Rich Bryant, Mikey Goode, and Justin Monts.
In celebration of National Farmers Market Week, come to this week’s Brownsburg Farmers Market for the annual Corn Roast from 4-7 p.m. at Town Hall Green! Town staff will be serving up free sweet corn (while supplies last), donated by Weber Farms.
As the summer wraps up and the Brownsburg Farmers Market ends for the season, you can look forward to our upcoming seasonal markets: Fall Market on October 10, and the Christmas Under the Starts Market on December 5.
