Meet Isaac LaRoche, the Parks Department’s Youth Programming Intern. Isaac is a graduate of Brownsburg High School and currently attends the University of Indianapolis where he studies Sports Management.
Having just completed his freshman year, Isaac highlights his appreciation for being able to work in an internship close to home while still building valuable professional experience. He hopes to enter into a career centered on sports and has found this internship to be a perfect starting point.
“I’m interning directly under Jamilah, the Youth Services Manager, so I’m getting a good intro to some sports management stuff,” Isaac says.
In his role with Brownsburg Parks, Isaac’s work focuses on the Brownsburg Parks Camps. He is involved in the daily operations of the summer camps, and is also planning the upcoming spring and fall break camps.
“It’s a cool experience,” Isaac notes, “because I get to put whatever I’ve been taught into practice and be in charge of the planning.”
Preparing for the upcoming camps requires extensive planning. Isaac has worked on creating central themes, planning activities and daily schedules, designing newsletters, and making material lists and a cost-recovery plan.

When his internship ends, Isaac looks forward to heading back to school for his sophomore year and jumping into his courses. For now, he enjoys the daily activities at summer camp.
“My internship started before camp started, and being in the office was nice because I got to see the behind the scenes stuff,” Isaac mentions. “Now, it’s nice that I’m not just sitting in the office. We do field trips, we’re outside all the time, and we’re playing games.”
