In the world of professional drag racing, few names shine as brightly as Antron Brown’s. From his early days in New Jersey to the pinnacle of NHRA Top Fuel Racing, Brown’s career tells a story of relentless drive, groundbreaking achievements, and a life dedicated to speed and family.
Brown’s journey into the world of racing began far from the thunderous roars of Top Fuel dragsters — on the dirt bike tracks of his hometown in Chesterfield, New Jersey. There, he
entered his first race at just six years old.
“I was one of those fearless kids who did all the crazy stuff with my BMX Motorbike,” Brown shared, reflecting on his early days racing dirt bikes with his family. “I was jumping big jumps when I was young, and I never remember having any fear.”
It was then that Brown knew he wanted to pursue a career in racing.

“When I was in elementary school, I would draw super-fast motorcycles, race cars, dragsters, and funny cars and pretend like I was driving. I would also get into my dad and uncle’s race cars and pretend to be racing them. I would move the gear shift back and forth and make the noises and everything like ‘errrrr verrroom’.”
It wasn’t long before Brown transitioned from spectator to competitor, starting his professional career in motorcycles.
“I raced motorcycles for ten years, and then I pushed myself beyond what I thought I could do,” Brown said. “I found out real quick that the thing we do as humans is hold ourselves back and think that we can’t do things when we really can do anything we put our minds to.”
Transitioning from two wheels to four was a
significant leap that led Brown from local circuits to the grand stages of the NHRA.
Brown’s career is highlighted by three Top Fuel world championships and five US National
championships. Additionally, Brown was the first black driver to win a major US auto racing
season championship. Overall, Antron is seventh-best in NHRA’s
70-year history.

Yet for Brown, the victories are not only personal triumphs, but also significant milestones for the sport itself.
“We are still trying to generate that history. You know what I mean? Some of my biggest
accomplishments are just becoming a professional in general and then pushing beyond any boundaries I had dreamed about.”
Reflecting on his impressive career, Brown shared an unforgettable moment that marked the beginning of his journey in Top Fuel racing.
“When I got into Top Fuel, my first race out, our team qualified as number one, and on our fourth race, we won,” Brown recalled. “That was pretty unbelievable; I remember it like yesterday. Another thing that stands out is winning my first championship in 2012. That’s like winning the Super Bowl in motorsports to me.”

Yet, beyond the trophies, it’s Brown’s approach to racing and life that truly defines his legacy.
Behind the sheer exhilaration and unmatched intensity of drag racing, Brown’s life is grounded by his family and home life. Despite the demands of a career that keeps him on the move, Brown remains a dedicated family man, often citing his wife, Billie Jo, and three children, Anson, Arianna, and Adler, as the bedrock of his success.
“When I am home, I try to be present and spend time with them. I want my family to be in an environment that each of them wants to be in. They don’t need to do what dad wants to do. I have learned over all the years to enjoy the things that my kids and family like to do and encourage them to do what they want to do.
In 2019, Brown took a significant leap, establishing AB Motorsports, headquartered in Brownsburg, and stepping into the dual role of racer and team owner.
This decision marked a new chapter in Brown’s career, bringing unique challenges and the opportunity to mentor and inspire the next generation of racers. Under his leadership, AB Motorsports made its on-track debut in 2022.
“Being a team owner, what makes it worthwhile is the people I get to do it with,” Brown said. “I have a lot of great people here with a lot of pressure on their shoulders, and they do so well with it. AB Motorsports wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for the people here.”
Brown and his team’s technical expertise is exceptional. However, Brown emphasizes that its the team’s collaborative atmosphere and determination that have led to their many successes.

“This is a team-oriented sport,” Brown said. “You have to be precise about everything you do. You have to be operating on all eight cylinders, and that’s the whole team, not just you individually.”
As Brown looks to the future, his focus extends beyond the immediate horizon of competition. With aspirations of expanding AB Motorsports into a multi-car team and fostering talent through a grassroots program, Brown’s vision is firmly rooted in growth, education, and cultivating racing’s future stars.
“I just want to give what I got as a kid growing up. All the people I look up to that are like my heroes; they gave me that time. That’s all that people have to do is give people time and truly, genuinely treat others the way you want to be treated. People always say that, but how many people really do it? You know?”
Brown’s legacy continues accelerating, racing beyond limits and into motorsports history.
“I think that the one thing I would like for people to see when they see Antron Brown… is that they see a person who is not scared to work, a person who is fearless and chasing his dream.”
