Celebrate Pi Day with Local Pies and Pizzas

March 14 (3/14) is known as Pi Day because of Pi, the 3.14 ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. What better way to celebrate math and geometry then by eating “pie” for Pi Day! Whether it is fruit pies or pizza pies here are some local “pie” establishments!

The Hayloft

This farm-to-table gourmet grocery store sells locally grown produce, and locally sourced meat and dairy products, homemade desserts and more. They sell deep dish fruit pies from United Pies in Elkhart and Wicks Pies. Pie flavors include cherry, apple, blueberry, peach, banana cream, lemon meringue, coconut cream, German chocolate, peanut butter, sugar. They vary from $16-$30 depending on flavor!

Alley’s Alehouse

18 Whittington Dr

Located inside Pinheads, take a break from bowling and playing games at the arcade and enjoy pizza at Alley’s Alehouse.  Their signature pies include Chicken Bacon Ranch, Mac Daddy, Four Little Pigs, Tree Hugger, Barbecue Chicken, Angry Buffalo, The Dude, Flyin Hawaiian, and Margherita. Alley’s also offers a barbecue, buffalo, ranch, queso, salsa, roja, zesty Thai, scorpion, venom, and teriyaki lime as sauce options for build your own pizzas.

Noble Roman’s Craft Pizza and Pub

Noble Roman’s Craft Pizza and Pub offers Deep Dish Sicilian and Traditional Thin crust pizzas, medium gluten free crust pizzas and dairy free cheese substitutes.  Specialties include Alfredo the Chicken, Animal Farm, Bacon the Double Pepperoni, Big Daddy Barbecue, Ultimate Five Cheese, Fire in the Hole, Greek Chicken Delight, Hawaiian Luau, Mini Mafioso, Margherita, She’s No Sour Grape, Veggie Max and The Works.

Mediterranean Pizza

Mediterranean Pizza is influenced by the traditional values of the old country and features an open kitchen and oven area, where customers can view their pizza being made. Authenticity is important at Mediterranean Pizza, and their signature pizzas include Mediterranean, Capriciosa, Roma – Meat Lovers’, Veggie, Hawaiian, Chicken Alfredo, Margherita, Supreme, Spinach Alfredo, Two Cheese Pizza, Gyros Pizza, BBQ Chicken and Cheesy Trio Supreme pizzas.

Rock Star Pizza has a line up, of rocking specialties including Caribbean Twist, Meatlovers, The Smokehouse, The Works, Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Alfredo, Big Mac Daddy, Philly Steak and Cheese, Thai, BBQ Chicken, Veggie Deluxe, Tex-Mex Whiteout, Hawaiian, Chicken Bacon Ranch and Hot Nashville Chicken  pizzas. The menu keto and gluten friendly crust options and Detroit style pizza options. Rockstar Pizza is also home to the 30” Pizza Challenge where 2 people have 45 minutes to remain at the table and finish a 30” one topping pizza and if they succeed the pizza is FREE, they get two $25 Gift Cards and each person wins a Rock Star Pizza T-shirt.

Make sure to follow Rockstar on social media, because they have a pizza rock scavenger hunt.  Either Rockstar Pizza or other local businesses do a collaboration and hide the rock that is painted to look like a slice of pizza and the finders of the rock bring it back to redeem for a free pizza.

Panoony’s Pizza and Wings

Panoony’s Pizza and Wings, has a huge list of specialty pizzas including Loaded Pepperoni Pizza, Meaty Pizza, Bacon Burger Pizza, Barbeque Chicken, Buffalo Chicken Ranch Pizza, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Chicken Deluxe, Deluxe and Dionysus Pizza. They also have staff favorites including Chicken Alfredo, Philly Steak, Pile Up, Smokehouse, Spicy Hawaiian Pizza, Veggie, White Cheese, Zesty Sicilian Pizza. Panoony’s pizzas are available in individual, medium and large sizes as well as the big Noony a 30” pizza that is cut into 64 slices. There is also a 10” gluten free crust option as well.

Sal’s Famous Pizzeria

At Sal’s Famous Pizzeria, the pizzas are baked over an Italian-style hearth to ensure the flavor is sealed in.  The woodfire specialities include Margherita, Bianca Neve, Cuatro Gusti, Caprese, Pesto Delight, Sal’s Signature, Napolitana, Italiana, Rocio’s Special, Bianca Rossa, Chicken BBQ, Giardeniera. They also offer a stuffed pizza and deep-dish Sicilian crusted pizza. Besides traditional pizza sauce Sal’s offers ranch, BBQ sauce, Alfredo and pesto as sauce alternatives. Sal’s also have a daily lunch special where you can get certain slices of their Neopolitan hand tossed styled crusted pizza by the slice.

So Italian has a variety of pizza options include the specialty options of Chipotle, Supreme “The Works”, Chicken Feta Florentine, Chicken Ranchero, Chicken Alfredo, Meatalicious, BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian, and So Cheesy and Vegetarian specialties of So Veggie, So Margherita, Greek, Fresh Garden, Fresh Garlic White, and Feta Florentine. Pizzas are available in 12″ Small, 14″ Medium, 16″ Large, or 18″ Extra Large sizes and Gluten Free, Keto Cauliflower and Keto Almond crusts are available in 10” size pizzas.

Their unique stylings include Aloha, B-Ripp, Ballsagna, Big Al’s Fredo, Big Cheese, Chicken Ranch, Eve’s Garden, Girl Next Door, Heavy Veggie, HotBox, HotChick, Party Fowl, Pesto Mambo, Popeye, Porky the Pie, and Supreme pizzas and they have a rotating “Pizza of the Week”, which means a different pie is 50% off that week.
