As the National Day of Unplugging approaches on March 7, it’s the perfect time to step away from screens and reconnect with nature. There’s no better way to celebrate this than by exploring Brownsburg’s beautiful parks and trails. Here are some activities you can enjoy that will help you unplug.

Take a Story Walk at Arbuckle Acres Park

Kick off your day in the great outdoors with a self-guided Story Walk at Arbuckle Acres Park. Seasonal picture books, provided by the Brownsburg Public Library, are featured along the paved, looped trail, allowing families to enjoy a leisurely hike while engaging imaginations.

Explore the Outdoor Classroom at Williams Park

For those who love to learn, the Outdoor Classroom at Williams Park is nature’s playground waiting to be discovered. With two pollinator gardens, raised herb gardens, nature play features, and a handmade natural stage, there’s so much to explore and enjoy. Grab a book from the free little library and read it among the trees, touch and taste the different herbs in the garden, or identify plants in the pollinator gardens.

Get Active at Stephens Park or Virgil Park

Looking to get your heart pumping? Stephens Park and Virgil Park offer free outdoor fitness equipment for those who want to stay active while soaking in the fresh air. Exercising outdoors helps improve cardiovascular health and build lean muscle—all without a gym membership.

At Stephens Park, 605 Stephen Dr., the adult fitness zone and the children’s playground are conveniently connected by a shaded pavilion, allowing parents to easily supervise their kids while they play. The featured fitness equipment includes an elliptical machine, recumbent and spin bikes, a leg lift, a butterfly machine, an arm cycle, and more. Additionally, a walking loop and pickleball courts are available, perfect for unwinding after a workout.

At Virgil Park, 9145 E County Road 300 N., the featured exercise equipment is designed for strength and cardio training and includes a stationary spin bike, a chest press, and a sit-up bench. After your workout, take a stroll through the park to explore the wetlands and observe local wildlife, or enjoy a walk or bike ride along the B&O Trail.
