The B&O Trail’s Northfield Tunnel is about to burst into color. Later this month, Indiana muralist Elizabeth Wertman, known professionally as Blondebrush, will transform this well-traveled underpass into a vibrant celebration of Brownsburg’s racing heritage and community spirit.
A Bold Design with Local Roots

The new mural will feature a racing theme, bringing together oval track cars and dragsters in honor of Brownsburg’s iconic Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park and motorsports heritage. With its bold depictions of racing, the mural also complements the Brownsburg Racing Memorial Trail, which honors significant figures in Indiana’s racing history, each commemorated with a marker throughout our parks and trails. In May, the Town unveiled the sixth memorial marker located on the B&O Trail, recognizing racing legend Rodger Ward.

“I love getting to bring a spark of inspiration to every mural I do, whether that is through bright colors or fun imagery,” said Wertman.
Wertman’s bright, playful style is instantly recognizable. Her work often combines bold lines, colorful palettes, and thoughtful nods to the communities she works in.
Bringing Art to the Trail
The Northfield Tunnel mural is part of a broader vision to make Brownsburg’s trails and public spaces inviting. These murals transform otherwise ordinary underpasses into unexpected bursts of creativity along the trail.
This is the third tunnel mural along the B&O Trail. In 2023, artist Zach Medler completed the mural under CR 300 N., and murals on the Ronald Reagan Parkway tunnel were painted shortly after construction about 15 years ago.

This project will be completed in just five days, with finishing touches wrapped up by August 23, just in time for the NHRA U.S. Nationals.

Meet the Artist
Elizabeth Wertman is based in Indiana and has been creating public art across the state for years. Under Blondebrush, she’s painted large-scale community murals to smaller, detail-rich pieces for businesses and schools.

Her past projects include colorful nature-inspired murals in Greenfield, downtown pieces in Franklin, and sports-themed art in Indianapolis. Each work is tailored to reflect the identity of the community.
Where to Find It
The mural is located along the B&O Trail where Northfield Drive crosses overhead. You can access it in a couple of ways:
- From Cardinal Park: Park and enjoy a one-mile walk or ride east toward Ronald Reagan Parkway.
- From Virgil Park: Park and head west about half a mile for a shorter stroll.
