Meet Molly Gibbs, a Recreation Coordinator for the Town of Brownsburg Parks. Molly graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a degree in Sports Management and a minor in Business Administration. During one of her college classes, a Brownsburg Parks staff member visited and mentioned an internship opportunity, sparking her interest. Molly started as a Recreation Intern in the summer of 2022 and quickly became a driving force behind the wide success of events like ‘Pint’s and Paddles’, the annual Farmers Market, ‘Blue’s in the Burg’, ‘Christmas Under the Stars’ and many more.

Upon finishing school, Molly transitioned into her role as a Recreation Coordinator at Brownsburg Parks. In this role, Molly is responsible for coordinating community events and programs, including strategic planning, coordination and execution.

“Through working on programs like ‘Sporties for Shorties’, I was able to stay connected to the sports side of things while also expanding my skills in event management. It was through events like the annual Farmers Market and others over the summer that I truly discovered my passion at Brownsburg Parks,” shares Molly.

As an intern, Molly had the opportunity to create her very own event as her final intern project. This event is Brownsburg’s ‘Pints & Paddles’. This event unites pickle ball players of all skill levels for friendly completion and socializing, with drinks and opportunities to connect afterward. Due to its growing success, Pints & Paddles will be going into its third year this summer.

As a Recreation Coordinator, Molly thrives on building connections. “Vendor communication is the biggest part of my job,” she shares. Her tasks range from managing everything following Farmers Market applications to coordinating with talent agents for ‘Blues in the ‘Burg.’ Whether fine-tuning event logistics with the operations team or managing sponsorships, Molly is driven to ensure every detail contributes to the consistency of Brownsburg’s successful community events and programs.

When Gibbs isn’t in the office on a work day, she is most likely setting up for one of Brownsburg’s community events. Event days can run up to 10 hours and are jam packed with “all hands on deck” tasks like packing up the event trailer, setting up all of the components for the event, being attentive during the duration of the event, and then tearing down the event.

“I think the most rewarding part of this role is the idea that we are constantly and consistently creating memorable experiences for residents every day. It’s so uplifting to see the diversity in family types here in Brownsburg and hearing of all of the enjoyment they share together at the events that we work so hard for,” adds Molly.

Molly received The Town’s Employee of the Year “Rookie” award in 2023 for her positive contributions to The Town of Brownsburg Parks. Over the course of two seasons, she successfully expanded the number of Farmers Market vendors from 25 to nearly 45, while also driving a significant increase in attendance at a variety of other community events and programs.

When Molly is off the clock at Brownsburg Parks, she pursues her role as a volleyball coach at Tri West High School and Rev Volleyball Academy, where a significant portion of her free time is spent. You can also expect to find Molly nose deep in a thriller novel!
