For the last 2 years, Dr. Andrea Shelton and her staff at Tinker Tooth Pediatric Dentistry have been revolutionizing pediatric care here in Brownsburg.
Wanting to be a dentist since she was two years old, Dr. Andrea was inspired and deeply impacted by her dentist growing up. “I want so much to give every child the same experience I had,” said Dr. Andrea.
Having just celebrated their second anniversary at the end of January, Tinker Tooth Pediatric Dentistry, at 675 Patrick Place, Suite E., is creating an enchanting experience for their patients. Creating a space influenced by the magic of Disney, Dr. Andrea and her staff have created an environment where children get excited about visiting the dentist. “I believe atmosphere makes such a difference for kids and how they view a medical/dental setting, so I wanted to create an office that did not feel anything like a dentist office. I wanted kids to be more focused on how special they are and how much fun we have instead of being nervous about the dentist,” said Dr. Andrea.
Dr. Andrea and her staff are very passionate about children’s health, and they get to the “root” of the causes or habits that could cause bad oral hygiene for children. “At our office we focus a lot on why kids are getting cavities and ways we can minimize risk. It’s not just all about brushing and flossing more. We spend a lot of time discussing how to set ‘your’ child up for success, whether that be talking about different snack options, oral motor development or vitamins and supplements. Working with kids gives us an opportunity to help them start early habits that will carry with them throughout their lifetime,” said Dr. Andrea.
Dr. Andrea credits her staff of highly skilled professionals for the success of Tinker Tooth. “I am so very blessed to work with such incredible people who have the same values and philosophies when it comes to taking care of patients. They truly go out of their way to make sure every family has the best experience they can have. Whether that is help with insurance or what to expect from a first visit, they are there to help in any capacity they can.”
Dr. Andrea is also thankful for the community she has created with her patients and their families. Tinker Tooth Pediatric Dentistry offers playdates throughout the year, where families can come play in the treatment space. During this time kids get to play with toys that resemble dental tools, have story time and participate in fun sensory engaging activities. Tinker Tooth also hosts a popular Santa event that for 2025 will be back but in a new location. Dr. Andrea and her Tinker Tooth staff also gives back or “pixie dust” their patients with giveaways, free coffee, free movies and more to show their appreciation.
