The Brownsburg Biohazards earned second place at the Indiana Water Environment Association’s (IWEA) 2026 Wastewater Operator’s Challenge, showcasing their wastewater management skills and dedication.
This year’s team includes Field Supervisor Matt Huckstep, Plant Operator Shane Russell, Collection System Technician II Nate Ballard, and Wastewater Laborer David Lewis. They competed against eleven other teams from across the state. The Brownsburg Biohazards stood out with an especially strong performance in the residuals and recovery event, earning first place in that category.
The team’s overall second-place finish demonstrates their technical knowledge and teamwork. In recognition of their achievement, IWEA will provide the team with a $5,000 credit toward attendance at the Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition & Conference or another IWEA event.
Participating in these events sharpens staff’s technical expertise and offers valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals and vendors. These experiences help the department stay ahead of emerging challenges, strengthen daily operations, and foster team camaraderie.
Congratulations to the Brownsburg Biohazards on their success!
